What's Going On

This is where you can find out what's going on here at Broadway Covenant Church. Keep up to date on all the events and where they're taking place.

Announcements

Mexico mission send-off dinner
This July 17 event will feature lasagne, a silent auction, door prizes and entertainment for everyone. Broadway Covenant youth will travel to the Rio Bravo area the first week of August to support ministries there. At the send-off dinner, participating youth and counselors will tell what they expect on the trip. Tickets for the 6 p.m. dinner event are available from Derek Melin or any of the students participating in the mission: $7 per person or $20 per family. For more information, call the church office at 815.399.9296.

Covenant Camping
Covenant Harbor, in Lake Geneva, WI, and Covenant Point, in Iron River, MI, are taking camp registrations for this summer. Although some of the sessions are filled, opportunities are still open. For more information, go to the Ministries page.

Pastor Eric to compete to support special needs
Pastor Eric plans to compete in the August 3 Covenant Point Triathlon & Fitness Walk, where he hopes to raise $1,000 to help support the camp's special needs ministries. For information about sponsoring him in the triathlon, contact the church office at 815.399.9296.

Following Jesus
In this sermon series we look at what it means to live for him, to follow Jesus, to be his disciple. Many people formulate their own "Jesus," a character who is very meek and mild and makes them feel happy but never really challenges them, never really asks anything of them. Unfortunately, the real Jesus did this all the time. Whenever Jesus invited someone into a relationship with him, to follow him, Jesus challenged them. He'd say things like, "pick up your cross and follow me," "sell all your possessions and follow me," "drop your nets and follow me," "go, and sin no more." The New Testament writers sought to answer the question, now that we know Jesus, what do we do? How do we live in light of the salvation we have received through Christ's death and resurrection. How do we follow the risen Lord?

To begin to answer this question, we examine particular books of the New Testament. By providing an overview of different books, we see how different themes of following Jesus are brought to light. For example, our first sermon in this series focuses on the book of Hebrews. The overarching theme of this challenging book examines the implications of Christ as "the perfector of our faith." So following Jesus therefore means running "with perseverance the race that is set before us" in light of Christ's perfection.
