Mission Board Report for September

This month we are praying for Byron and Sue Bruckner and Covenant Youth of Alaska (CYAK). By-ron is the executive director of CYAK. He was born in Nome and grew up in Alaska. CYAK oversees and coordinates youth and young adult ministries for the Alaska Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. CYAK’s vision is “to see vibrant and healthy communities reflecting the gospel of Christ and led by people God has transformed.” A few months ago, Pastor Adam Londen of Bethel Covenant Church had a vision of using a food truck as an outreach to the homeless population and to the unchurched youth. “During the summer the food truck would be a youth program that provides intentional discipleship and jobs for youth while connecting those youth with church members. During the rest of the year, the food truck would provide employment for low income in-dividuals especially those living in the homeless shelter.” When a food truck became available CYAK was invited into partnership to help raise funds for the purchase. “This summer CYAK interns have been working to start up the food truck, in addition to creating a space in the church for youth to come, feel safe and be engaged.” The truck has been open a few days a week for 3-4 hours at a time. Already the truck has provided employment for one low-income individual and one youth. Please pray that this ministry will connect youth to the church and that through this they may know the love of Christ deeper. Also pray for the CYAK staff as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
